One of the best ways to learn about your community and state government is through a California State Assembly internship. Assemblymember Marc Berman seeks bright, self-motivated, and energetic individuals for his District Office in Palo Alto.
The District Office Internship is designed for high school students to better understand California's legislative process and support constituents of the 23rd Assembly District. As an intern, you will support staff with events, constituent services, research, and other special projects as assigned. This voluntary position will provide you with professional development, strengthened writing and research skills, a deepened relationship with your community, and an understanding of legislative office operations.
Our office will work with applicants who request to receive undergraduate or graduate credit. Internship terms will be determined based on the availability and needs of the District Office.
Responsibilities
- Engage with constituents via telephone or in-person
- Research and respond to constituent requests and inquiries
- Assist with constituent casework
- Assist with data entry
- Work with staff on special projects and assignments
- Attend district and community events
- Perform outreach to community leaders, constituents, and interest groups
- Assist in planning and research of upcoming events
- Other assigned tasks, as needed
Qualifications
Candidates with a strong interest in public policy, community organizing, writing, political science, public policy, economics, communications, public relations or a similar area of study are encouraged to apply. Interns must reside within Assemblymember Berman's district. Applicants must be at least 16 years old or have completed 10th grade by the start of the internship.

- Ability to manage multiple tasks and competing deadlines simultaneously
- Proficient in using Microsoft Word and Excel
- Fluency in a second language is beneficial
